I need advice on a 93 Virago 535 I'm thinking of buying. It has only 5.5K miles and runs fine but a couple years ago it was dropped twisting the handle bars into the tank. It's all been repaired except dents in the gas tank.
My concern is that the handle bars and front wheel don't line up exactly; i.e., when the front wheel is straight the handle bars are very slightly askew and vice versa. Is this a serious enough issue not to buy this bike? Any ideas what it might take to correct this slight imperfection?

Hello Yamaho,

I would consider a different bike. It might be fixable but if they went through all the trouble of fixing the bars and everything and still it doesnīt line up it might be a hard fix. When you are on the highway at 65 mph you donīt want that. You need peace of mind and there are plenty of bikes out there...

Just my two cents.

Thats an easy fix, but its complicated to explain, ur forks are not bent, they just need lined up, everytime you remove the front tire the forks need lined up. Take it to a good Yamaha Mechanic and he should fix it up easy.

I think you should look at another bike, accidents like these might extend damage to more parts of the bike that are unseen now. Your primary problem is the front end, and I think that cannot ever be repaired to full condition. Be careful, a bike damaged like that going fast could destabilize itself quickly Unsure

I have to disagree . Arkanosman, a good straightened front end is as good as a new one , in my opinion buying a new one is a waste of money. Go ahead with the bike is what i say

I think you're wrong, I don't like to take chances and play with my life, riding with a twisted handlebar is what I call dicing with death. A big NO from me on this bikeMad

You do have a point there but I don't think the risks involved are so great. Ultimately he could buy the bike and wait until he gets enough money to buy a new front end

That's a good compromise but wouldn't it be better if he started with a non defective bike instead of bothering with one with problems?I think it would Sly

With my old Yamaha I had a pretty bad accident when I started riding, the work was really twisted. I straightened it out at a good mechanic and i did not feel any vibrations when riding. This was a small bike wouldn't go faster than 80

Hi yamaho, I'm with arkanosman and others,,, Just because it's got low mileage DON'T TOUCH IT!!!! Yes it can be fixed .......
BUT it is NOT worth it,, like stated @ 100 odd Km an hour (60-65 mile) you don't want to get the dreaded "wobble" @ speed..
And if there was (god forbid) an "off" weather your fault or not you may be liable.. And insurance would be a problem...
In my opinion go for another ride(but stay with a Yamaha)
Ride Free... FTW... (Forever Two Wheels)
