honda will not run with out choke Quote | Reply

i have a 1982 homda CM450C that has been sitting out for a few years before i purchased it i have been doing as much work as i know how to do on it and still cannot get it to run right. i took the carbs apart and cleaned the jets, bowl, needle, and slide. i also cleaned off the diaphrams and springs that are on the side of the carbs, i also cleaned out the fuel rails and am sure it is getting gas. the problem is that it will not run with the choke off and some times it only runs on the left cylinder. the only thing left that i can think of is a vacume leak and the only place that i found that it could be leaking from isthe oil sensor which i have just taken out tonight and plan to repair the leak tomarrow. note the diaphram on the one carb is a little misshaped but not ripped. thank you and i would appreciate any advice

Too much trouble I think that you should get a new carb from a dealer or even scavenge one from a scrap yard. The bike is pretty old I’m sure you'll find parts for it. It's just not worth the trouble new carb will be the wisest choice if you ask me

I think you should get another new carb altogether, but I’m sorry .I have limited knowledge about this model I don't know if parts are readily available

There are some cleaning fluids especially developed for cleaning carbs, make sure u clean with those they do a great job I found a nice carb cleaning kit at, Advance Auto Parts. Has a gallon can much like a paint can. Cleaner is inside w/ a basket with holes in it. Just disassemble the carb (pay attention to how it comes apart) take digital photos if a camera is available. Take lots of photos in the various take down steps. Really helps in reassembly. You put the part in the basket (isn't there a horror movie with this theme that South Park hyjacked one episode?) and lower it into the can of cleaner. Close the can wait overnight and have a look see. A rebuilding kit MIGHT be available.
Probably a brand new carb would save a lot of time and hassle.
