I have a 1982 Yamaha XJ550 Maxim. I'm a complete newbie, & not very mechanically gifted, so please be gentle and make your answers monkey simple.
I recently changed to a new battery, since the old one was maybe 3 years old & not really holding a charge anymore. I've ridden a few times on the new battery, short jumps, maybe 10 miles or less. The battery will no longer hold a charge. At first the piston would groan and try to move, but now all I get is the sad -click-click-of the electric ignition.
I've taken out the (2 month old) spark plug (minor oil fouling, but largely ok) and held it against the block to check for spark, and no blue flashies for me.
If it were your bike (be kind, now!) what would you try next? Thanks in advance for your help! Peace & respect, Joy in NY
HI there ,,, firstly ,,, how often do you start the bike ? if not riding it everyday you should at least start the bike every3 or 4 days ,, sometimes on the old bikes you have to do this , the batterys wont always hold charge ,,,, iam not sure did you say there is no spark as well?
