HELP! Try to start bike -- GAS POURS FROM HOSE Quote | Reply

Yesterday I was excited that I was going to have the chance for a good, long ride. My 8 year old daughter had been begging me to take her for a ride for a few weeks so we both went outside, I put her helmet on, backed the bike out of the garage and attempted to start it.

I smelled a lot of gas, and I was surprised because I didn't think that I could have flooded it. Then I felt something wet on my leg and it was a ton of gas coming out of a rubber tube. (It is actually coming out of two tubes, from what I can tell.) I checked and my engine was on Reserve, (my 2 year old messes with it) so I moved it to the On position. I looked around and the tube that provides gas to the engine seemed secure and tight.

I tried a few more times to start it but it wouldn't start. It keeps "turning over" but it won't get going and gas just dumps out of this tube.

Has anyone ever had this happen before? If so, what was the problem and how did you fix it? This is driving me nuts because I can't ride.

Thanks for your help,
CT

That is what I would have thought too. The float was good, the needle perfect. The vacuum piston had a good gasket (no holes, well-seated, no breaks) all parts of carb inspected well. I did a light cleaning of the carb anyway. I replaced the spark plugs for grins.

All hoses in the system seem okay, no holes, tears, etc. But when I spray some B12 chemtool into the carb and try to start, it wants to start. It just can't seem to get the fuel. When I try to start it and cover the air intake, it starts to get enough vacuum in the system and it runs for a little while while the air intake is covered. It just appears that it needs more suction.

The strange this is that this happened all at once. The bike worked one day, it sat for a week or so and then it wouldn't start. I've been trying to make this thing run for months and I need to get it fixed. If anyone has any ideas, I would definitely appreciate it.

Thanks for your help!

Yeah, I replaced the spark plugs just for grins to make sure. A cheap fix, so why not? I need to give my needles more attention. Good advice and thanks for the help.
