I have a 1989 Yamaha 1300 Venture Royale. It smokes when I take off, after the engine has idled for a while. One spark plug looks oily on resister. I pulled the head. Same cylinder, the piston is clean on the top; no carbon, and the valves are wet with no carbon either.
