78 XLH 1000cc pinion gear alignment mark???? Please Help!!

I'm trying to set the cam timing on my 78 XLH 1000 but I'm not sure on the pinion gear alignment to the crankshaft. Do I set the front cylinder to tdc and then set up all gears or to the mark on the end of the crankshaft?
