BMW 1971 R75/5, had excessive smoking from left cylinder. Tore apart, replaced valve guides, rebored, resleeved, new rings. Same condition exists! Any suggestions? What am I overlooking?

Hi; I have a 1971 BMW R75/5 that smokes on the left side, did you find out what the cause was? Tks for your help, would be nice to know before I take a part. Chuck

Try storing the bike on the center stand. Every Beemer I have ever had will smoke considerably at start up when stored over night on the side stand. Think about it. The bike leans to the left. Oil runs down hill, seeps past rings, when the bike starts the 1/2 teaspoon or so of oil is instantly blown into the header which slowly burns the oil as it comes up to temp.this smoke can last 5 minutes or more if the bike is just left idling to warm up or 1-2 miles if ridden.i have bought bmw's that people thought needed rebuilding when in reality all they needed was to be stored strait up.
