Which BMW shud I buy? Quote | Reply

Hi Folks,
I am currently riding a Kawasaki ER5, and stand at 5' 9" at around 78kg.
I use the bike to do some midrange tours especially riding from Malaysia into Thailand and i usually cover a round trip of about 2,500kilometers.
Thinking of getting some advice from u folks here, which BMW shud I buy? I like lite weight bikes that are able to do some mid range touring. I must admit, that I ride mostly on roads.
Pls advice me based on what I am:-
1. Style of riding: Mid range touring and short trips.
2. Type of terrain : Roads mostly (even though i wud love to go offroad once i na while)
3. Height: 5feet 9 inches
4. Weight : 78kgs.
Brand of Bike: BMW.
Pls folks, need some really serious advice here.

Tips, I have been looking at th BMW F650 GS, but none in actual size...wud this bike be too small for me and fit my needs?

Faz Harris

Hello Tokwan,

A BMW is definetely the right brand. For the model I would pick the R1200GS. I've ridden the F650 before and although a blast to ride I think it is too light for the trips you make.

If you would stay on the road I would recommend my favorite bike and the one I own, the R1150 RT. The problem with this one is that is pavement only.

Go to a dealer and take both for a test ride. Now only the R1200 RT is available but you can find good used R1150 RTs out there.

Let us know what you end up getting and how it performs.

David
