I am sure you heard this before but I have to say it one more time :) I bought a brand new Concours back in 01 and although I sold it a year and a half later (I have motorcycle addiction so have to try different ones evert year) I must say I was surprised by how much motorcycle I got for the money.

That was my first brand new big bike and probably the last one. I buy used now and recommend you to do the same specially with the Kawasaki Concours. This model hasn't changed in many years and you can find very low milage 2-4 years old for under 5K.

Nothing fancy, but everything you need to go to work or get lost for a while. Pretty sporty too!

Feel free to ask me any questions on the bike. I am not very mechanically oriented but other than that I can answer pretty much any question about connie.

I ride a 1999 Concours and a 1980 Honda CB750 Custom. I love the CB but the Connie is so much more stable that I was amazed when I first started riding it. It's a very good bike, goes faster than I'll ever need to, and can cruise comfortably all day at any speed you need. Good, large hard bags and a good fairing. What's not to like. And of course, you can't beat the price.

It's pretty much the first time I see this model but i have to say i like the lines of the bike very much and it also looks very practical, and as you said it is too Smile

. You say it's a "big bike", did it feel lighter than it actually was?

The only thing i don't like about this bike is the instrument panel, but I rode it once and it was stunning, it's so bad that you sold it

The bike looks good not too fast not too tame and I assume it's great for long distances, but as a personal preference I like the faster models from Kawasaki

Hi Guys

Well, I just bought the GTR1000, and I will collect it in a couple of days. Much encouraged by what i've read on here about the machine. Having just passed my direct access riding test, I haven't got any usable experience in selecting a machine I know I will feel comfortable with, particularly on safety issues. I sat on the bike, and as far as my experience goes, it felt rather good actually.

Any help or advice would for sure be welcome this end Smile

Exciting Jbuk!

I know in Europe the Concours is called the GTR1000 but it is in fact the same bike. I am sure you are going to enjoy it. This is a motorcycle that you can use to go to work or go cross country with no advanced notice needed.

The main advice I can give you is take it easy at first untill you get to know the bike. Make sure you follow the break in instructions and be careful when using the center stand. It is not a light bike and I droped it once while trying to use it.

Hi there daser007

Thanks for the advice, it is really appreciated ! Well, It's Christmas day and I have my new toy. I collected it on Saturday. Since it is my first big bike, I arranged that my instructor meet me there and sort of keep the traffic off of my back for the first mile or so, and that turned out to be a rather good idea, due the the increased comfort feeling if nothing else. The bike performs beautifully !, particularly with lower speed handling and general road holding _ I really am very pleased with the choice. One concern I have however is that I am aware of the weight; especially when coming to a stop as when parking etc. The ride height @ 31.5" is comfortable, but I have to watch very carefully when planning my actual place to stop in case I reach out my foot and find 'air' I half understand that you can lower the rear suspension somewhat since it is 'air' ? Perhaps you might have heard something on the same line?

I have a picture of the bike which I attach. It isn't my actual bike, but it is the identical model and colour (Metallic darK blue) bla bla.

I have also been trying to locate some Murph's tip over bars in the UK without any success yet, because I am certain it is but a matter of time until I drop my beauty.

Hey Jbuk,

Congrats! I am glad everything went well. The tip over bars are a good idea as they will potentially save you money on expensive fiber glass.

As far as I know this bike comes with a rear Air-adjustable UNI-TRAK� single-shock system with a four-way adjustable rebound damping and 5.5 inches of travel. I don't think the travel is adjustable but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the Calaforia greetings thunder !! I can only sit whistfully here and imagine you riding around there in warm sunshine ! The weather over here in the UK is total crap at this time.

Getting back to the topic of suspension lowering, I happened upon a US site that supply an aluminium (US aluminum?) bracket device that affords the opportunity of three seperate lower settings - wonder what you think about it? http://cgi.ebay.com/...mp;item=150069398506

I just bought a used 2001 Concours with 10,000 miles. It seems to run a little rough when idling...the tach fluctuates right around 1000 rpm, but runs fine when actually accelerating though. Any ideas...or is this normal for a Concours. Also...since I do not have an owners manual, I cannot locate the oil filter, can you tell me where it's at...I took both fairing skirts off and for the life of me could not find the filter. Please let me know SCT7920 @Aol.com
